ANOTHER camera survey of road traffic is underway at Evening Hill. Presumably this will collect further empirical evidence for the evaluation process of the new protected cycle lane there.

The last survey showed that 2,554 cyclists used the lane in one week.

That means 2,554 fewer cyclists to hold up motor traffic travelling up the Hill. It means 2,554 fewer cyclists to compete with pedestrians for the pavement.

It means 2,554 cyclists who felt safer. It means 2,554 cyclists who chose to leave their car at home, reduce pressure on parking at Sandbanks Beach, reduce carbon emissions, protect the health of themselves, the community and the environment.

These benefits are worth protecting.

The survey this week will be a good test as the weather forecast is not good.
