MANCHESTER United want to speak with Gary O’Neil about a possible role at Old Trafford, according to a report by ESPN.

O’Neil, 40, was handed his first managerial role by Cherries in November 2022, after a successful three-month interim spell.

He was tasked with keeping Cherries in the Premier League, something he achieved with games to spare.

However, Cherries still decided to part with his company at the end of the season, going in a new direction under Andoni Iraola.

O’Neil was soon handed a route back into Premier League management, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he has excelled.

As well as guiding Wolves into the FA Cup quarter-finals, O’Neil also has them sitting ninth in the table and chasing a European place, four places and six points above Cherries.

And it appears his work has not gone unnoticed. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group now in charge of football operations at Manchester United, O’Neil is reportedly on their radar to be part of a new coaching set-up at the club.

An exact role has not been specified, but the suggestion is the Red Devils would like to talk to speak to O’Neil about a position underneath the head coach.

Erik ten Hag is currently in charge of the first team, but speculation remains around his long-term future.
