HUNDREDS of people have had their flu vaccines at a pop-up flu clinic in the car park of doctors’ surgery in Bournemouth.

Gervis Road was closed between Gervis roundabout and St Swithun's roundabout yesterday to allow for patients to park and have their vaccines done within their cars outside The Panton Practice.

Dr Rob Graham, a GP at The Panton Practice, said: “We’re vaccinating all day, until around 6pm. There are separate areas for under and over 65s and marshals guiding the patients and ensuring they keep at a safe distance.

“We are doing it all outside and have been very lucky with the weather although there are no queues because of meticulous planning by our management team, namely Debbie Savage.

“This is why the road was closed, so people can park their cars and not worry about paying parking fees or causing an obstruction.”

The surgery said that they had to order their vaccinations by January to ensure they had supplies, as many places have reported that they have either run out or do not have enough.

Over 1,500 people were due to have their vaccination jabs, and members of the public have praised the system enforced by the doctors’ practice.

Dr Graham added: “The public have loved it, they have said our system is smooth, efficient and takes no time at all.

“Hopefully this can be used as a dummy run for the Covid-19 vaccination when we get it.

“We are holding another one on Thursday at our practice on St Leonards Road. It will be run in much the same way with minimal queuing and staggered times to give time to get people processed through.”
