MoMA’s rich and varied collection offers a panoramic overview of modern and contemporary art, from the innovative European painting and sculpture of the 1880s to today's film, design, and performance art. THE STATE HERMITAGE MUSEUM SAINT PETERSBURG, RUSSIA

State Hermitage is one of the largest museums in the world. Its exhibitions include over three million exhibits representing Antiquity, Western Europe, Middle East, Russia and many more epochs, countries and regions. Its foundation dates back to 1764, when Catherine the Great purchased a big collection of Western European paintings.

You can see masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Ticiano, Rembrandt, Rubens, Matisse and Picasso. The museum also hosts a world's best collection of Holland baroque, French paintings of 19th and 20th centuries, Western European decorative art collection, a unique Gold of the Scythes exhibition, and ancient Greek jewellery.

 

OHARA MUSEUM OF ART, KURASHIKI, JAPAN

Kurashiki entrepreneur, Ohara Magosaburo, founded the Ohara Museum of Art.

This private museum, featuring Western art, is the oldest in Japan. The Ohara Museum of Art plays an active role in Kurashiki, expanding the collection to include both modern and contemporary art from the West and Japan, as well as pieces by artists who served the Mingei Movement (Japanese Folk Art Movement). Now the museum is well known to the world as a private museum with its own character, reflecting Japanese culture.

 

MAURITSHUIS DEN HAAG, NETHERLANDS

The Mauritshuis is home to the Best of Dutch painting from the Golden Age. The compact, yet worldrenowned collection features masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.
