CHOCOHOLICS rejoice! At last there is a way of making chocolate that’s actually good for your health.

Although it might sound too good to be true, Louise Jones makes pure chocolate without using refined sugar, gluten or dairy. She also adds edible essential oils which she says can help to improve people’s health and energy levels.

After struggling with anaemia for many years, Louise says she managed to overcame it by cutting out wheat, sugar and dairy. She then went on to set up her Food for Thought Cookery School at her home in Westbourne, focussing on healthy, delicious food.

(I got to sample some of her pure chocolate and although I was a bit sceptical at first I can confirm it tastes divine!)

Now as well as running her cookery school, Louise who admits she has a sweet-tooth, is launching a healthy Pudding Club this month. Her philosophy is that it’s got to “taste naughty but be nourishing for the body”.

“Each month I will make three different healthy spins on favourites such as cheesecake, brownies, banoffee pie and will explain a bit about why each pudding is good for you then let you devour them whilst socialising over a wine or gin!

“My aim is to create a community of like-minded people, who love sweet treats, culminating with a real buzz of excitement about healthy food and investing in your health in a fun way.”

Although this month’s launch event is sold out, the next one takes place on Wednesday, November 14 at Ginjams Westbourne and tickets are available via Eventbrite.

Louise is full of enthusiasm and refreshingly, her approach is all about balance.

“Healthy chocolates in one hand and a glass of wine in the other is a perfect balance,” she laughs.

I’m already planning to sign up for her Energising Snacks, Healthy Chocolate and particularly her Healthy Edible Christmas Gifts classes which includes treats such as healthy chocolate covered hobnobs, chocolate avocado truffles and gingerbread cookie dough energy balls.

Classes are £40 per person including recipe cards, ingredients, and you get to take home everything you make.

She adds: “Being gluten, dairy and refined sugar free, each class is informative, informal, fun and most of all tasty!” To find out more, see fftcookeryschool.co.uk

Here’s one of Louise’s recipes to try at home:

Matcha Latte Recipe

“Matcha is pure green tea powder and great for energy, building your immune system and making you feel good without that caffeine high,” says Louise.

Serves 1

250ml plant based milk

1 tsp matcha powder

1 tsp honey or natural sweetener of your choice

1 tsp coconut oil

Pinch of nutmeg to top

Place all the ingredients in a pan and heat over medium heat whilst whisking. Don’t let it boil. Pour into a big mug and top with nutmeg, warming and comforting, like a hug in a mug!
